My fashion week favorites!

Following the fashion week shows and all the new fall/winter 2013 collections was great. It’s so inspiring to see the visions of so many designers and to get inspired yourself. I’ve decided to show you some of my favorite looks from the fashion week when is comes to design and inspiration. These are not the most beautiful or most wearable looks, but the ones that inspired me the most. It’s a very colorful mix from different designers. Enjoy.

Freezing cold and fashion week!

This week is all about following the fashion week shows, especially the menswear collections. There have been some quite interesting collections so far. I enjoyed seeing Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Etro and my favorite designer James Long. I own one James Long sweater but seeing his collection makes me want to have more pieces. Watching fashion shows is the perfect thing while the weather outside is freezing cold. To give you an impression of Berlin winter I made some winter photographies for you. It’s not a lot, but it was not easy to get me out into the cold and to catch some decent pics with winter atmosphere this winter. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Black cord for my black machine!

IMGP0429As I have already mentioned, the holidays have been a great time for me to finish some of my sewing projects. One of these project is a cord pant for the winter season. I bought some black cord long time ago and I had many ideas what to do with it. I did not really plan to make some pants for myself since I don’t like to wear black, but it’s winter here and the streets are really dirty, so a black cord pant is just perfect for this season.

I made a picture of my sewing machine, so that you can see what machine I’m working with. It’s a Singer anniversary version, not really a cheap one, but on the other hand not professional enough as I would wish it to be to sew really thick fabric.

I’m not always in the mood to record and picture every step of my projects, so you will get to see basically the finished pants in my post. I’ve chosen a loose fit with a low crotch. That’s how I love to wear my pants the most. I know that a lot of men wear tight or skinny pants, but that’s just not my thing. If you need a pattern you can buy a pattern and manipulate it or you can transfer your pattern from an existing pant that fits you well. The best choice still would be to make your own pattern by using your own measurements. I think that every of these three ways is ok as long as you achieve the fit that you are looking for.IMGP0984IMGP0981IMGP0986I did not have my new fabrics yet, so I had to use leftover fabric for the pockets. I’ve found some nice beige linen. I think it makes the pants look interesting. My zipper was a little bit too short, so I added two buttons on the waistband. I love the high fit of the waistband, it’s very comfortable and it give the pants a classic look.IMGP0979 IMGP0977I’m looking forward to experiment more with the fit of pants and to create more pieces for myself. What do you think of the fit of my cord pants? Do you like it or not?

At home with a cold and a pencil…

This week I had to sit at home and cure myself. I caught a cold and even though I tried to go to work and handle it somehow, it was just too much at the end of the day. My energy was gone and I needed some proper sleep and peace. I definitely wanted to use the extra time at home to finish some projects, but my body was too weak and I couldn’t concentrate on anything for a long time. The least I could do was something relaxing but still creative. So I took a pencil and started to sketch some stuff.

I didn’t do any sketches for a long time and I’m not the type of person who designs everything accurately and puts it down on paper. I’m having some ideas of making my own pieces and do something like a collection one day but I’m not as close to that as I would love to be. Still there are some ideas in my head on bags, underwear and woolen sweaters. Hopefully my progress in sewing will continue and bring everything together one day.

On the first sketch you can see the idea for an interesting avant-garde looking waistcoat/shirt that I’m planning to do the next weeks. It is supposed to be made of a shiny and flowing material. I also visualized some ideas for bags and sweaters/jackets. I think I will use many of these inspirations for my upcoming projects. I don’t use a lot color when sketching, I simply like to keep it clean and leave it open to whether color I want to use in the end. My sketches are not so professional, but I think some of them still turned out very nice.

I feel much better today and I’m glad that I used the extra time at home this week to be creative and practice sketching after a long time.IMGP0858IMGP0864IMGP0862IMGP0860IMGP0865
